Exploring Great Jazz in Great Britain
More than just a room full of boxes, the National Jazz Archive is a UK-wide registered charity working hard to tell the stories of jazz in the UK across the world.
The National Jazz Archive is the UK's world-renowned repository of all things jazz and working hard for the past, present and future of this inclusive, diverse and innovative art form.
The Jazz Hub is the front door into the NJA and our Cultural Centre and Museum's mission is to provide visitors with enriching experiences that inspire creativity and curiosity. Our collections includes artifacts and ephemera from renowned and lesser-known artists that tell the stories of great jazz in Great Britain.
Our HQ and core archive is held in Loughton Essex, where we're proudly supported by Essex County Council who have very generously supported us at Loughton Library for nearly 40 years.
Our premier satellite collection is held at Birmingham City University, Central England where they have kindly hosted us in state-of-the-art archive facilities since 2018
We offer guided tours, workshops, live music events and educational programs for all ages. Come and explore our galleries and discover the richness of our cultural heritage.
Sadly, due to some unexpected property issues (we're in a building due to be refurbished some time soon!) - viewing STRICTLY BY APPOINTMENT so please get in touch before making any journey!

Our mission is to inspire curiosity and foster a deeper appreciation for the diversity of jazz in all it's forms.
Our extensive collections include a wide range of jazz artifacts, publications and photography from across the years. From the 30's and 40's artifacts to contemporary times, our collections provide a fascinating glimpse into the history and culture of the wonderful world of jazz.
We work with educators and students to offer a variety of educational programmes for visitors of all ages, including guided tours, workshops, and lectures alongside our live music events.
